Fairly comprehensive collection in thick European album representing one man's collection, often with mint, used and first day cancels running parallel, from the first issues through the 1970s, we note especially the "Hradcany" section with imperf errors on the 10h green, 20h rose and 30h violet (not signed but with wide margins and appearing genuine), then "Posta" overprints to the 4k green on grey followed by excellent studies on 1920s issues written-up with lots of perf varieties requiring further investigation particularly on the "Science and Agriculture" issues, etc., also present are later issues with useful ranges of se-tenant labels, tete-beche pairs, souvenir sheets incl. 1952 Bratislava used, etc., a very good collection.Est. $1000-1400

CZECHOSLOVAKIA AND EASTERN SILESIA GROUP. The highlights here are the Czech Forces in Siberia, with the 1918/20 series of 6, unused inc. occasional signed by Gilbert, inc. 1920 o/ps, with all values to the 1r and more signatures by Gilbert. The series of 3 'soldier post' in Siberia, present with perf 13 3/4 and various others, again with a study and more expertization markings. Then the Scout issue pair with 2 series mint and one used, inc. blue, violet blue and light blue on the 10h and then carmine red, light red and rose carmine on the 20h. Then a further five complete series of this issue, no doubt with occasional other subtle differences for the specialist. Then the Hungarian o/ps with 'Cross and Griffin', logo, Austrian Hungarian Empire, o/p 'Ceska Slovenski Stat' to high value 10kr, used. Then the series of 15 complete mint to the 10kr o/p, accompanied by the 'Porto' to the 10kr mint high values and further studies of these interesting o/ps inc. inverted. Another interesting page is the 'Provisiorni Ceskaslovenska Vlada' o/ps to kr and Emperor Karl design o/ps - these are not often seen. Then the same again, this time the larger o/ps and shields as surcharged on the 7th November 1918 at the end of WWI. Then a study of Eastern Silesia with the Hradcany with lots of different perf varieties to explore, as well as of course the imperfs to the 1000h. The collector here has also occasional blocks and items identified that do not fit into the existing body of literature of this area - so there are a few question marks he periodically placed for material requiring further research. Other 'back of the book' is present but time does not permit more description.Est. $900-1200

CZECHOSLOVAKIA OLD-TIME COLLECTION. The vendor states that this was bought in Europe about 30 years ago, and just left on the shelf. Certainly this is an old time holding, mint and used, replete with stamps and to a certain extent, awkwardly mounted on large homemade pages, with the stamps occasionally falling off among the thousands of different stamps here. There is also a little postal history/specialist postmark/1930s promotion material, etc. Highlights include a good range 'Hradcany' leading onto more obvious such as the 1920s 'Sokol' issue o/ps complete mint, similarly the 1925 'International Olympic Games', better airmails o/ps including imperfs #C1 - #C3, combination mint and used and many commem and defin series, leading up to the 1960s. The 'back of the book' is also fascinating, including Czech forces in Siberia, again with more Hradcanys, with lots of perf studies, shades and color varieties, not organised at all to best advantage, but because it is original offered intact as received, there is huge potential here for the specialist.Est. $700-900

SLOVAKIA 1930s/40s ISSUES SPECIALIZED COLLECTION. Slovakia has always been an interesting country philatelically and here is a fascinating collection, mint and used, much of this is underrated as it hardly ever comes on the market. For example starting with the 'Slovenski Stat 1939' o/p issues on Czechoslovakia with various unused to the 2 1/2 kc and various used to the 1.6kc. Then there are other Czechoslovakia stamps overprinted including the Priest mint 12 1/2kc and blocks of 4 corner marginals control numbers used, followed by imperf blocks of 4, 20h and 30h and a superb corner marginal block of 4 control number, 20h used, followed by the Slovakian Priest series with various other mint blocks of 4 to the top value mint never hinged 3 karuny. Many more commems of Slovakia proper, as well as airmails particularly strong in issues of 1940 onwards, including further imperfs, with some specialization that may well yield further discoveries for the knowledgable. The Slovakia war years are very comprehensive inc. the carrier pigeon, similarly other 'back of the book' on the doplatne issues, and further imperf multiples through to the 'Arms' imperf blocks of 10, as well as pairs with and without watermark, etc. Accompanying all of this is a collection of modern Slovakia, yet of course the main interest and value here is in the considerable 1939 to 1945 section.Est. $500-600

CZECHOSLOVAKIA COLLECTION. If you are looking for a beautifully displayed album with clear cut representation of this country, including some early 'back of the book' and above all a good 'bread and butter' collection, you could hardly do better than this. One album, choc a bloc, with material including miniature sheets and philatelic collateral such as the 1927 Prague International Aviation displayed vignettes and others including the 'Budweiser' o/ps, a good range of Hradcanys perf and imperfs, the 'Posta Ceskoslovenska 1919' o/ps to the 4kr and then on the Hungary o/ps and a few Portos inc. 5kr blue used. Then mid 1920s fairly comprehensive with much mint, one of a kind, which as stated is the key to this collection, i.e. one of everything, except for the rarities. The same can be said for the doplatits and this bulging volume has much diversity that would serve as an excellent foundation of Czechoslovakia through her stamps. 95% is in complete series and also 95% complete through to the modern era. A very clean, virtually all mint collection.Est. $450-600

GERMAN STATES AND GERMANY REVENUES COLLECTION. An extraordinary collection of mostly 19th century and early 20th century revenues, housed in a binder with mostly old fashioned quadrille album pages There are thousands of stamps here, all organised by denomination and respective German State, as well as Germany. The key to understanding how good collection is that they are nearly all different, ie. one of a kind value for value. For example, with the imperf issues of Stuttgart, the 1875 imperfs mauve from 2pf to 50pf, as well as the 1879 mint 1pf to 50pf, then the 1882 2pf to 50pf mauve used, then a second issue in dark blue again to the 50pf, accompanied by some anachronistic earlier imperfs of 1870, followed by further better material up to turn of the century including 1898 used though to the 2mk. The next few pages are particularly outstanding, the Stuttgart imperfs 'platzgeld' and 'markstandgeld', with punched holes having been applied for revenue usage, accompanied by the hard paper rectangular imperf 'waggeld ' unused from the 3pf through to the 36pf, followed by the large issues for the Stuttgarter Messe with various purple cancels lightly applied, from the 10pf to the 24kr high values. Further imperfs, this time Tuebingen with various primitives, similarly for Esslingen. Then the collection has a section specifically for Germany with mint and used issued 1876 onwards, leading on to a fantastic range of inflation issues of the Weimar Republic, for example mint o/ps through to 5 million marks, then a further series to 500 million marks, leading on to last day o/ps of 10 billion marks! Then a collection of Prussian revenues, Baden with many se-tenant types, some excellent looking Oldenburg, Brunswick, Bremen and much much more. There is so much more here, even for places relating to German Occupations such as the 1916/18, 10pf through to 20mk mint Occupation of Estonia, etc. Further worthwhile areas include Saxony, Wurttemberg, Hessen-Nassau, etc. Also an excellent 'Moebelmesse' series from the 1898 onwards incl imperf between, side margin imperf, imperf pair etc, yet the main strength being the hundreds of stamps of different series of these types of 1898, onto the early 20th century, overwhelmingly mint. Other good areas include unused Hamburg Liberty allegory from the 5pf to 20mk, then much more 19th century united Germany again all presented with some truly delicious engravings. A fantastic opportunity to get a collection formed many decades ago with much great material that you hardly ever see.Est. $3500-5000

GERMAN STATES AND GERMANY REVENUES SUBSTANTIAL BALANCE. This represents the balance of a good 19th and 20th century Germany and German States revenue collection. The presentation is quite chaotic but equally fascinating, with material that was waiting either to be incorporated into the main collection or album pages to accommodate the re-presentation of new material. Here there are large multiples of inflation o/ps, much Third Reich present, various German States among the many thousands. Virtually every kind of presentation conceivable i.e. old fashioned quadrille album leaves, stockcards, glassine envelopes, documents, loose etc. This is a huge work project and certainly not for the faint-hearted.Est. $1400-1800

GERMANY MOSTLY 20TH CENTURY REVENUE COLLECTION. 20th century revenue collection housed in two thick binders with many hundreds of stamps, mostly used on old fashioned quadrille album pages, this collection seemingly covers the gamut of 20th century revenues, with particular strength in the Weimar Republic, Third Reich and the immediate post WWII years. The key to understanding this collection is that like its predecessor of German States and early German revenues, it is virtually all one of a kind. Just a sample of what is here is large and small format 'magistrate stamps, with high values, 'Stadt Polizeiwerwaltung' including gold mark o/ps of Cologne with an impressive display including eagle strikes, then 'Standesamt', 'empfangsbesscheinigung' through to RM as well as DM values. Also Tuebingen University stamps and shields, Karlsruhe with a good range of different values, Kassel shield and various eagles, Kiel, Koblenz with various sparmarken, o/ps of Third Reich, Leipzig, Lokstedt, Loerrachm, etc. - this is just to take the 'K' and 'L' section at random. However this an 'A to Z' collection with virtually every 20th century area represented - time does not permit a further description yet it will be clear from inspection that this is a "collectors collection" in an area of philately that has tremendous potential, viewing highly recommended.Est. $1800-2400

GERMANY ACCUMULATION. An exciting, wide ranging box from a wannabe dealer, housed in 8 volumes with thousands of series, virtually all never hinged, with no large quantity of any given item, perhaps half a dozen or so of any one series that we have seen, similarly with the m/s etc., it is therefore very diverse. DDR for example, from the late 1940s onwards with lots of very colorful mint topics and occasionally better definitives. Even German Occupation such as Bohemia and Moravia with a very strong stock to high values inc. many so called 'Leerfeld', some of these are very good in Michel. Also a good range of Thuringen, Russia Occupation and that complicated period from 1945 to 1948 to investigate. The broad stock of Bund very neatly organised, virtually all in complete series - absolutely a 'turnkey' stock, particularly from the mid 1950s onwards. The used of these West German issues are also strong, especially the earlier 1950s, with a dozen or so posthorn series complete and key high values such as the 'Helper of Mankind' 30pf blue, with the 'Pestalozzi' with no less than eight copies inc a strip of 3 and a pair of Sc #B323 (cat: $92 each). Lots of other 30pfs, as well in reasonable quantities, etc. i.e. Scott #688, #693, #701, #B337, etc. There are also other good #B series of the period such as three #B332 - #B333 etc.. Another volume this time Berlin, again with a parallel showing of commems and defin series, particularly from the mid 1950s onwards with virtually everything complete. There is also a specialized se-tenant/'zusammen drucke' and various booklet panes, etc inc. some 'back of the book' non Scott listed plus it should also be mentioned that there is good used Third Reich here as well. A very good stock not requiring too much work with huge retail potential.Est. $1500-2000

GERMANY - ALLIED OCCUPATION

1742/

GERMANY ALLIED OCCUPATION COLLECTION PLUS BERLIN. A very clean mint collection of these issues from 1946 to 1949, with specialization. Everything in pristine condition with much never hinged, starting off with the numeral issue, the imperf and perf currency reform miniature sheets, leading onto the British and American issues, followed by the German printing of the same, then the posthorn overprints inc. the good color of the 60pf, with the single band posthorn o/p signed by Schlegel, this scarce stamp also has a numeral margin. This is followed by the next series of 1948 with the all over posthorn' o/ps, 15, 30, 35, 50, 55 and 84pf all expertized twice, followed by the second series of the single band posthorn o/p, with the 10, 15, 25, 30, 45, 50, 75, and 84pf, again all signed twice on the back. Finally on the posthorn o/p the very last two series of the different types i.e. a complete series of 11 from the 2pf black to 30pf mauve and the final complete series of 8, again 2pf black to 40pf mauve, again all signed twice on the back. Then the 1948 'Castle' series complete from the 2pf to the 5pf, as well as the second scarce series of the Castles, particularly the 1, 2, 3 and 5DM, all with the 'fewer steps' printing, mint never hinged. Finally, the last permutation of perfs of 2pf to 1DM again mint never hinged. The collection ends with the Hannover Exporte Messe m/s, the 'Help Berlin', bicyclists, Goethe and yet more 'back of the book' Michel listed material. A lovely collection to view.Est. $1300-1600

Condition is nice throughout; where there are used, all the cancellations are correct, ie. contemporaneous of that time and the mint often has occasional surprises with never hinged, as well as various old signatures etc, there are also Han numbers, varieties and distinctive Michel listed specialities. For example Eupen, Malmedy complete, similarly with Germanias o/ps, the same applies to post WWI Polish Occupation, excellent Memel virtually complete with particularly strong Lithuania Occupation, through to post WWII with Berlin o/ps complete to high values, good SBZs, the castles complete to 5m, as well as WWII with Bohemia and Moravia complete and virtually the same with 'Generalgouvernement' etc. Much more here than described, an excellent opportunity.Est. $1400-1800

GERMANY - RUSSIAN ZONE SPECIALIZED COLLECTION. Attractive mint and used collection on album leaves with hundreds, starting with the 'Sowjetische Besatzungs Zone' o/ps complete mint never hinged including the better 60pf shade and broken 'w' variety on the 40pf, then complete used with the same variety, followed by a page of better shades used inc. Another crammed page of varieties has inverted o/p on 24pf mint never hinged (signed), lots of 'P' and 'W' varieties, broken letters, 2pf imperf pair mint never hinged (#182U), and more. The later issues of 1948 are similarly in-depth with complete mint never hinged and used on the 'bear', Leipzig fair', numerals and personalities issues along with dozens of Michel varieties, HAN numbers etc, as well as several pages of West Saxony issues, again mostly never hinged, with lots of mint multiples showing the complex watermark and paper varieties which should be examined by the viewer, as we have not had the time to research as we would have liked.. GERMANY - SOVIET ZONE - WEST SAXONY AND THURINGEN SPECIALIZED COLLECTIONS. If you are looking for a challenge, look no further - clearly one of the most complex areas of post-WWII philately mint and used, housed on album pages, with much identified by Michel number, but by no means all, specifically focussing on the Leipzig Exhibition of 1946 and the 'Building Bridges' issue of the same year. Starting off with the different watermarks, perf and imperf, with focus on the 12pf + 18pf shading. Also imperfs superb used again with different types perforated superb used 'on piece', the collection goes into orbit with a phenomenal study of plate errors on these Leipzig issues, mostly never hinged with much scholarship and write-up for the corresponding items. The same could be said for the inter-panneau pairs, horizontal and vertical, perforated and imperforated, 'X' and 'Y' watermarks. The Thuringen 'building bridges' issues is a little less complicated but still challenging with again horizontal and vertical inter-panneau pairs, imperf as well as 16 stamps representing the heart of the large sheet with 4 of the '10pf + 60pf', 4 of the '12pf + 68pf', 4 of the '16pf + 74pf' and 4 of the '24pf + 76pf' and then the same again with singles, etc. This is a collection that will almost have you tearing your hair out trying to identify what is here.Est. $600-1000

GERMANY - DDR OFFICIALS COLLECTION. Specialised mint and used collection on album leaves with over 160 stamps, starting off with the 'hammer and compasses' of 1954/60 inc. mint blocks, granite papers, followed by the issues for 'Verwaltungspost A' with no empty spaces inc. paper varieties, shades, etc, parcel posts, and the colorful issues for 'Volkspolizei-Kreisamter' for the different towns. There is much here that could not be found in the Scott catalog and only in Michel with tremendous potential, for example on the 'Fur vertrauliche Dienstsachen' there is a used #2 on piece (cat. ¥400) and many other good items from this including imperfs, misplaced o/ps etc. Much the same could be said for varieties on 'Zentraler Kurierdienst' issues, which apart from the numerous errors has these issues seemingly complete! On the more standard compass issues there were various granite papers as well as so-called 'Enge Zahnung'. Even the 1967/68 pairs with ten examples of the packet and registered stamps mint. This collector went a long way to filling every space on the album page as well as getting varieties and there is much more here than described.Est. $900-1200
