Czechoslovakia

1236CZECHOSLOVAKIA: WORLD-CLASS SPECIALISED 1920 THOMAS MASARYK 125H BLUE POSTAL HISTORY COLLECTION. "A fabulous collection of over 70 covers and cards extensively written-up and mounted on quadrille pages, representing part of this collector's lifetime study of 1920s Czech philately. There are many remarkable items here, not least the two covers that begin the collection, both bearing imperf examples of the gray blue stamp (#61), one showing a very attractive single usage from Lipnik nad Becvou to Vienna, the other with a wonderful combination franking of no less than three imperf copies alongside 25h green 'carrier pigeon' and 50h green 'freedom breaking chains' sent from Pohorela to Vienna. The latter cover is hole-punched well away from the stamps but this is irrelevant given such scarcity of this item (signed Wallner). Then follows a highly specialized survey of the perf issue on cover, with so many good covers it is difficult to choose highlights. Types I and II of the 125h are identified, with several covers bearing pairs showing both types se-tenant, then on to the constant plate varieties on cover beginning with two types of the short foot of '2' and many others, followed by covers exhibiting the thick and thin varieties on the numerals '125' including a scarce express cover bearing examples of both thick and thin numerals. Further sections include registered and express usages with many attractive items and colorful combination frankings, a series of covers marked with the cachet of the Czech post office, cancellation studies bi-lingual cancels in German and Czech, bahnpost, machine and slogan cancels with for example boat and train motif for the 1921 Prague Fair with four different Hradcany issues and the Masaryk 125h on registered cover, signed Karasek and much more. This is an extraordinary collector's collection of scarce postal history that would be extremely difficult to replace. A pleasure to go through, inspection highly recommended."
