| 2008 | / | | WORLDWIDE WITH STRONG WESTERN EUROPE GROUP. This represents a New England estate with a 'must-sell' instruction. This collector was clearly a hoarder who loved material of Western Europe, particularly Germany. Sweden for example is surprisingly good with lots of mint UPUs of 1924 and more importantly, lots of 19th century in excellent condition mint and used with considerable postmark interest on the 'Numeral of Value' issues. Also seen dozens of different o/ps for the so called 'frimaerke' types of 1916, not forgetting the official stamps again with lots of postmark interest here as well. Probably the best book of the Germany is the very specialised Russian Zone collection, including the first stamp, the 12pf red written in Cyrillic and Roman alphabets, followed by completion of the 1945/46 type II perf, the same imperf and then the type III numeral values, also imperf. Then Western Saxony with the 1945 types imperf and the better watermarks, types Ib, perforated, followed by the less scarce nevertheless good types i.e. type III complete etc. Yet more studies on the Leipzig printings, leading through to the so-called 'Volks' issues, followed by the Exhibition issue, perf and imperf with all scarce watermarks present and the m/s. Further Saxony with types I complete imperf, the perforated issues complete of type II inc. the scarce 15pf, followed by page after page of completion with a similar pattern on Thuringen. Then the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern with the Thalmann series used complete, as well a great study of the definitives again with virtually everything present with very scarce Michel listed material, unfolding to the 50pf blue Goethe m/s. Also good German States with for example 4 margined copies of the 18kr red and 18kr orange of Bavaria, followed by the 18kr 'coat of arms', etc. German Empire from the shield issues, pfennige and pfennig complete, all the way through to the Third Reich. Allied Occupation is strong with for example the Red Cross m/s of Rheinland Pfalz and Baden and the much underestimated German Occupation issues of the Soviet Union, Lithuania and Pernau, Other countries represented include Switzerland, with the 'Pro Juventutes' mint never hinged complete and 'Pro Patrias' virtually complete, including a superb used m/s of 1936 with correct cancels, accompanied by certificate. Further sections of mint Swiss material, with high face value content and also premium. Papal States are strong with one volume including the 50baj blue unused, with four margins, accompanied by a Zanini certificate. Lots of other better areas too including France with a used collection, as well as 19th century highlights, useful French Colonies, Spanish Colonies, South and Central America, Iran/Persian Lions, some great Romanian classics much more, even a little US including better classics with 12cts black #36, 6cts 1869, a very attractive 30cts orange Franklin 1857 (#38), Columbians, etc. Some reference material as in all such accumulations but much more here than described, please allow plenty of time to go through everything. | Est. $6000-8000 |

| 2037 | | | WORLDWIDE PHILATELIC MELANGE three binders containing an odd mixture of classic 19th century items, modern Independent Africa and former British colonies intermixed with some worthwhile pre-WWII sets and singles from various British &: French colonies and Europe, nothing appears to be in any semblance of order except perhaps the order in which they were purchased as auction lots in Europe since everything is identified by Michel catalog and valued accordingly, among the 19th century material we noted strength in German States, Italian States including used Sardinia 1954 5c Yellow-Green (signed E. Diena), in addition there are several pages of early Djibouti or Somali Coast followed by several pages of modern Africa, another volume includes a strong section of classic Thailand followed by a few pages of early Panama, and the last volume includes some British colonies, though very few complete sets, with emphasis on British Caribbean especially Belize, since everything appears to be jumbled together, it is somewhat difficult to properly evaluate so it is helpful to refer to the Michel values which add up to a substantial amount. | Est. $3000-4000 |
