/ | | WORLDWIDE SAFETY DEPOSIT BOX when lightning strikes, it strikes twice here at Harmers. This is an exceptional safety deposit holding worldwide. Truly exciting we nearly could not put into this sale, since there was no time. However we have done so, although it really should be broken up into at least half a dozen lots or so. The estate wishes it to be auctioned now and is a "must-sell" instruction, even though we can only accommodate the vendors as one lot. It is a fantastic holding - make sure you ask for this on your viewing list. We have seen for example the scarce Japanese communications miniature sheet mint Scott #C8, KEVII Hong Kong $10 Scott #85, used, Germany Zeppelin polar flights on cover Scott #C40-42 complete, good Mexico, British Commonwealth especially Indian Native States, etc, better Colombia, good German postal history, useful Australian States, excellent Austria with sheets of 40 complete of the good semi-postal to the 64 pf complete 1930s, St Helena mint KEVII 10sh, Nigeria KGV £1 (2 mint) etc, etc. The above is just a very small fraction of what is here just to whet your appetite. | 2512 | | | WORLDWIDE HOLDING we love it when vendors come through the door with a "must-sell" instruction. However this does not make us too popular with the printers! "Keep it brief", OK Germany, Berlin, Red and black o/ps complete, good Saar, good Allied Occupation including Red Cross m/s, good Goethe, bells, polar bear complete mint series and the scarce miniature sheet, the 1949 UPU etc etc. Interesting Canada with a good range of unusual perfins, lots of postal history from pre philatelic onwards, fantastic "back of the book" with covering all kinds of themes late 19th early 20th century, inc balloons, North Pole, Zeppelins, European patriotic even Italian "doll house" multiples etc. Also seen good Austria, Poland, Spain, French Post Offices abroad - that's it, no more space allowed! | 2513 | | | WORLDWIDE SAFETY DEPOSIT HOLDING despite the pressures of lotting and getting the catalog to bed by the deadline, there are compensations when you love stamps. At the last moment this came through the door at Bethel and we have been instructed to offer it as one lot, intact. It is small and beautiful and if you are looking for an important range of good material that you can put easily in your briefcase, then this is it. Highlights include good Mexican eagle issues imperforate, virtually all four margined including high values of the ‘ocho reales’, Japanese occupation of Malaya specifically Perak with $5 high values, better Western Europe, ie m/s from Liechtenstein, Switzerland as well as good series from the better 1930s of Austria, also seen useful British Commonwealth inc EDVII 6 pesetas and 12 pesetas on 5/- and 10/- mint respectively, as well as the better printing, namely ‘de la Rue’ seahorse with the 12 pesetas on the 10/- mint KGV. Other areas seen including scarce Brunei m/s, Chinese locals, Indian Native States, Bolivia with non Scott listed material again including imperfs, rejected plates, inverted o/ps, unaccepted essays all from the 19th /early 20th century, etc. Much more here than described, especially in the back of the book. Probably the best way to get a feel for the depth and range of material is to look at the color scans, although this is the tip of the iceberg. This holding is loaded with much more good photograph material of individual items and would make a ‘mini-auction’ in itself. It is a thoroughly recommended viewing and certainly an excellent opportunity for a dealer looking for this kind of caliber for mail sales etc.[v] | Est. $10000-12000
   | | LARGE WORLDWIDE COLLECTION a very good range of material housed in 12 Supreme Global Minkus stamp albums, mint and used, with some albums being much better than others. Good 19th century as well as lots of good mint modern series, with issues going through to 2000. Tens of thousands of stamps here, probably more, with better countries including Australia with Navigators series mint to the £2, Belgium, Burma with KGVI with various mint definitive series, Canada from QV onwards through to modern, absolutely loaded with mint series, m/s, booklets all neatly displayed. China from the 19th century onwards, Denmark, Germany from shield issues onwards to 18kr, also useful Weimar Republic, Third Reich mint never hinged with better series complete to 40pf purples of the 1930s, Great Britain including penny black, with QEII phosphor graphite complete mint etc. Italy and Italian States, Malaya particularly with Straits Settlements inc QV to 32cts and various o/ps, Netherlands, New Zealand all the way through to the "Z" countries. | 2516 | | | COLLECTOR'S LIFETIME WORLDWIDE ACCUMULATION three large cartons brimming over with worthwhile stamps and souvenir sheets. Two of the large cartons are filled with envelopes just as he bought them from prominent dealers in New York and London during the 1960s and 1970s. Although the vast majority are new issues of the period from British Colonies, Western Europe, Africa, and Latin America, a significant number of envelopes contain older material that has increased tremendously in value over the years. For example, we noted a 1933 cover from Austria franked by the 1933 Skiing set. From Belgium, we spotted the 1958 Antarctic S/S while Cyprus includes the 1963 Boy Scout S/S. Danzig is especially strong with several better items such as 1920 First Overprinted set, 1921 Trading Ship set and Coat of Arms set, all NH along with 1932 Airmail Overprint set. We spotted a few better Greece such as the 1933 Zeppelin set (NH) and the Airmail set while Italy - Rhodes includes the 1932 Garibaldi set (NH). From Russia, the 1964 Green Olympic S/S (2) and San Marino 1949 Scenic Views set and finally, a strong group of Ryukyu Islands that contains almost everything of value from the country including all the Airmail sets and the Special Delivery issue in a block. The last carton contains about ten Canada year sets along with several stockbooks of brand-new stamps. Although it is not easy to inspect all of these envelopes, we can guarantee that the lucky viewer who spends the most time viewing the lot will find even more worthwhile items hidden away.[v] | Est. $8000-12000

/ | | WORLDWIDE COLLECTION one man's lifetime of stamp collecting housed in eight large cartons containing about 90 binders. The vast majority are inexpensive used 20th century stamps arranged on home made pages. Many individual country collections include a few manila stockpages of used duplicates at the back. The single most extensive country is Philippines which fills about eight binders plus a shoebox of duplicates. Germany represents the next largest section and also includes a box of duplicates. We also noticed a significant selection of France, several books of Great Britain and British Commonwealth along with dozens of binders from Western Europe, Latin America and Africa. Scattered among the stamps, we did spot an occasional cover and in some instances, these are quite interesting items and usually represent more value than the stamps. As with many collections of this nature, we did note a number of items valued at more than $10, so, a careful review could easily reveal additional worthwhile items. Take a few moments and find out for yourself. | Est. $7000-10000

  | | BIG PILE OF STAMPS &: COVERS one man's entire lifetime of stamp collecting in six large cartons. His interests ranged from United States stamps, Trust Territories, United Nations, general foreign and let's not forget the FDCs. This poor man had a weak spot for FDCs and Fleetwood knew how to exploit his weakness. There are several albums of United States FDCs from the 1950s to the late 1980s and then there are the "collections" which start with the Birds &: Flowers FDCs, Europa topical FDCs, Endangered Animals FDC topicals plus several more. His main United States collection is housed in two volumes of Scott Specialty albums plus there are several volumes of the old brown Scott Internationals, many volumes of inexpensive foreign stamps mounted on notebook paper, a 1981 Royal Wedding collection and a small but nice Saar collection in a Lindner hingeless album. Did we mention the Trust Territories? We found several volumes of Marshall Islands, Micronesia and Palau including sheets; the face value alone is substantial! Finally, there is a box of stuff - loose album pages, glassines, bundleware and so much more. This collector "had it all" and now it can be yours! | Est. $5000-6000
   | | WONDERFUL WORLDWIDE MIXTURE Tens of thousands of 19th-20th Century mint OG and used stamps loose in small boxes, packed in glassines and arranged in dozens of approval books, 21 stockbooks and 15 albums, accompanied by thousands of covers, incl. US First Flights, FDCs and other special event covers, STS-8 flight covers, 100s of unused stamped entires and envelopes, and UN FDCs; we espied mint and used worldwide stock to 1970s arranged by Scott in 8 file boxes; US collection, incl. mint 1893 Columbians to 8¢, 1920 Pilgrim, Farley S/Ss and imperfs; abundant quantities of mint NH 1990s issues, incl. British Commonwealth S/Ss and gutter blocks; mostly mint Israel collection and stock, incl. Scott 7-9 untabbed; large stock of used Portugal in glassines; assorted unused PRC (1949-1965); mint and used worldwide collection to 1950s in five Scott International albums, with strength in pre-1940 issues; numerous foreign covers and FDCs; and much more; mixed condition amongst the used stamps, covers are mostly clean, and there is abundant, fresh, mint NH material; a great holding, loaded with potential and value, so roll up your sleeves, have a good look, and bid heartily ! | Est. $5000-8000
  | | HEFTY WORLDWIDE HOLDING A bounty of tens of thousands of mint OG and used 19th-20 Century stamps to 1960s, with the majority being from European nations and several of their related areas to 1940s, arranged in 60 stockbooks, and mounted in 3 European albums and over a dozen approval books, incl. a generous selection of mint and cto Russian issues to the 1930s, with many in block form, typical mixed condition, average through Fine-VF centering, generally neat, clean material; a great holding to pore over during those upcoming long, winter nights, with lots of potential for finding good cancels and other surprises; Definitely worthwhile viewing ! | Est. $5000-6000
/ | | MASSIVE WORLDWIDE SOUVENIR &: MINIATURE SHEET HOLDING a very exciting stock of worldwide souvenir and miniature sheets, housed in about 5000 presentation cards, with virtually everything identified in by Scott number as well as price. However the latter often needs revision upwards, as random inspection will quickly reveal against the catalogues. This is a very colorful stock with lots of good countries and Topicals, the overwhelming majority are mint. Many a time the presentation cards have 2 or 3 each of the miniature sheets, occasionally up to half dozen but that’s about it. We estimate therefore that there must be in the order of 8000 of these, quite possibly more. Lots of better countries noted include PRC, New Zealand, Cyprus, Iceland, Palau, Montserrat, San Marino, South Korea, Luxemburg, Togo, British Africa and French Africa of many kinds i.e. independent as well as colonial particularly in the former. The new issue and replacement cost of this huge hoard would be a small fortune. The dealer who formed this, now retired, was in business for several decades and this is reflected in the tremendous variety of what is here. Certainly the most pleasant feature is the lack of duplication and the variety of many pleasant countries only a few of which have been already mentioned. For us the easiest way to get a handle on what is here is to make an average. We have put this in very conservatively in a little over 50cts each but this could well be worth a deal more. Certainly the viewer that spends time on this will have a tremendous opportunity to appreciate the full scope of what is present. If you are fortunate enough to buy this within our valuation range, this will be a bargain opportunity. Very much a recommended viewing especially for a dealer who is looking for a good original stock that is almost "turn-key" save the need for re pricing. Don’t hesitate to put this on your list lots to view.[v] | Est. $5000-6000
/ | | WORLDWIDE HOLDING WITH STRONG NEW ISSUES TO 2000 an exciting accumulation, literally "A-Z" alphabetically organized in their individual file folders, A-Z, stuffed full of material. Some letters are obviously far more intense than others, however there are hardly any of these file folders that do not have a potential retail value between several hundreds or in some cases, a few thousands dollars each. One of the main features about this holding is the tremendous diversity of material with lots of good topics and simply items that this dealer liked! Yes, there is good saleable modern series such as Disney and wildlife, yet as importantly there are wedges of face value for all kinds of different countries in complete series, bulging in these file folders . The years cover much of the 20th century mostly the second half, there is even a little 2000 –surprisingly there are small sections periodically in the file folders of better pre WW2. However the substantial part of the value with is from the 1980s and the 1990s. Nothing seems to be in large quantity, more often than not a few to half a dozen of each particularly with the sheetlets, miniature sheets, se-tenants, booklets as well as regular issues as available at the time and held back by the dealer. Take any letter of the alphabet to get a ‘feel’ of what is here… for example starting with letter ‘A’, countries such as Antigua, Austria, Argentina, Albania, Australia and many others. Birds are a common theme and of course many others such as flowers, mosaics, military, uniforms, artefacts, archaeology, etc. The next letter “B” also sports a bulging folder boasting countries such as Belarus, Belgium, Bahamas, British Antarctic Territories, Bulgaria and again many more, just like virtually every other letter. The letter ‘C’ is just as bulky and fascinating, stuffed with material galore, representing countries such as Christmas Islands, Canada, Columbia, Congo to name just a few. These first three sets the pace with virtually every other letter, interestingly the letters ‘G’ and ‘M’ had to be put into 2 thick file folders each and unsurprisingly the letters ‘Q’ and ‘X’ amalgamated. Other stronger countries include Ireland, Israel, Japan with considerable face value as well as premium sheets/ sheetlets i.e. athletic issues as well as earlier UPU 1949 right up to the year 2000 with very colorful ‘achievements of the 20th century’ miniature sheets, Korea with lots of miniature sheets Luxemburg, Latvia 1939 m/s, lots of Macau, much Micronesia with themes such as space, fauna, butterflies – you name it, its probably here! Monaco, Montserrat with Bob Marley as also Presley seen for Palau, St Vincent, etc. Time just does not permit a further detailed description, save that there are many thousands of easily saleable complete series and will keep you working for months! How to value this? Well of course there are 26 letters in the alphabet and we think that a little under $200 each there is huge potential here for marketing. Please take a few at random, certainly a thorough viewing is much recommended. | Est. $5000-6000
   | | WORLDWIDE COLLECTION, 19TH &: 20TH CENTURY TO ABOUT 1960 many thousands of stamps here housed in three thick Scott Internationals organized by years, mint and used. Volume 1 being ‘A-Z’ for the 100 year period of 1840 to 1940 and an extremely impressive and valuable book with virtually every page containing something to offer and a catalogue potential that will be absolutely gigantic. We have no hesitation in projecting many thousands Scott retail in this book alone - take a look at Canada from 1859 Beaver and Large Centss onwards through to the $1 Parliament and various other good series of the 1920s and 1930s. Useful Denmark, Finland, France from Ceres onwards, lots of South America, India, Italy including better sets of 1930s, Netherlands with many good semi-postals again from the 1930s and earlier, better Newfoundland, Poland including stratosphere m/sheet, Russia from the Tsarist issues right up to better complete series of the 1930s with the pictorial athletics, underground/metro, Third Congress, better airmails loaded with good commems. Also Sweden, Switzerland all the way through to Zanzibar. Volume 2 which is 1940 to 1950, equally loaded from Aden through to Zanzibar, again often with a repeat of the better countries mentioned earlier which seems to be the collectors favorites. However take note in this album of China and Croatia as well. Volume 3 1950 through to 1960, again crammed with material, with for example Japan with the purple goose and the 1952/55 definitives mint complete series to 100 yen and of course the other countries this collector liked, especially Italy with key commems such as telecommunications, Unesco, Firenze and no empty spaces. Also good British Commonwealth in general, similarly lots of Russia in a well rounded worldwide representation of these years. A vast collection with great potential, ideal for any dealer looking for pre 1960, particularly pre-1940, which is very probably the best book. Any brave individual who still collects ‘worldwide’ as a generalist without the need for ultra-modern, will much enjoy viewing this substantial collection.[v] | Est. $5000-6000
  | | WORLDWIDE COLLECTION housed in 10 Scott Blue Internationals loaded with thousands of mint &: used stamps, the better countries, this collection contains an impressive amount of material which is alphabetically in order. Volume 1 "A-B", for example Angola from the 19th century crown issues onwards with a solid range of material leading on to turn of the century "Republica" overprints, followed by Ascension KGVI S. Wedding and the definitives to 10sh, various Bavaria from imperfs, etc. Book 2 with the balance of "B"s and nearly all the "C"s impressive containing countries such as Bolivia from the 19th century onwards, other BC to 10sh high values, as well as British Central Africa ‘crown and sun’ classics to 4r, useful China from 19th century onwards, etc. Book 3 features strong Croatia, Danzig, Egypt from the pyramid issues and much more. Book 4 has French Polynesia, Gold Coast QV with a magnificent cancel 1sh, as well as good KEVII both 1902 and 1907 to 1sh, GB including penny black, QV 2/6d, 1883 5d green mint, useful KEVII followed by KGV Seahorses, better KGVI, S. Wedding, 1951 Festivals to £1 mint, interesting Guadalupe and Guatemala, Hong Kong QV onwards including various dollar values to with KGVI $10 used. Book 5 which includes Hungary, India, Indochina, Japan from the 19th century onwards including 1896 military complete, etc. Book 6 continues with the same way with Labuan, Manchukuo, Montenegro, etc. Similarly albums 7 and 8 with Mozambique, Norway, Portugal, Rumania and Russia "choc-a-bloc". Book 9 features Switzerland and Sweden, very interesting Serbia classics well worth spending time on. Lastly book 10 which encompasses letters "T - Z" with countries such as Turkey, Vatican, Venezuela all the way through to Zululand. For some reason unknown, this collector placed Gibraltar after the "Z"s , it too is good, from the first QV issues onwards, up to QEII including the 1960 definitives to £1,1967 Ships definitives to £1, etc. Highly worthwhile, put this one down as a priority to view. | Est. $5000-6000
  | | WORLDWIDE "NEW ISSUE" ACCUMULATION. Stock of many thousands of sets, S/S, etc. mostly in glassines or still in agency new issue shipments in what appears to be almost no order, heavy in Brit. Commonwealth plus various European and Asian countries, looks to be primarily 1990s sets, singles, S/S, booklets, etc. though we did note some earlier and even into the 2005, loaded with topicals (esp Mongolia), some duplication but nothing to the extreme, NH, generally fresh and VF, an instant stock of the issues of the late 20th century ready for resale with some re-organization. | Est. $5000-7500
  | | WORLDWIDE CONDENSED COLLECTIONS here, a wannabe dealer who over the years took many a collection that were bought at auction, often from us, stripped them down from the album pages. Then he proceeded to cram them ‘stamp on stamp’, often with dozens to the line, mint and used with loads of complete series and in the process making a far more difficult viewing. There are many thousands of stamps in each book. Now offered to us intact, it has been requested by the vendor to auction them all together. Some of the countries represented in these 8 substantial books include Malta QV to QEII with intermediary shilling values and various commems complete, Monaco with early franc values, as well as later high value defins, commems galore and topical miniature sheets, Netherlands with much semi-postals from the 1930s complete and a plethora of series through to the 1950s and 60s as well as m/s, Norway from Oscar and posthorns, Austria imperfs leading on yet again to semi-postals, with several dozens if not hundreds of different series here as well. Useful Portugal leading up to more m/s, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain inc the ‘grenade thrower’ 10p green and dozens of other series, similarly with Turkey etc etc. Other books with Egypt, French and Spanish colonies, South West Africa with earlier high values to 10sh with bi-lingual blocks of KGV, Canada, South and Central America with much interest in Brazil, Chile, Uruguay and fascinating back of the book. Western European is strong across the board, especially France with better semi-postal series from the good years of 1940s and 50s, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, you name the country, it is probably here. This is a very well rounded valuable accumulation with much merit, even Eastern Europe with Russia for example from the Tsarist issues onwards and hundreds of series running from the 1930s through to the 1960s, including better. Lots of Peoples Republic of China with many better series as well etc. Time consideration does not permit further description other than mentioning the obvious, this is strictly for stamp workaholics! | Est. $5000-6000
  | | WORLDWIDE ACCUMULATION. Wide-ranging mass of philatelic “stuff’ ranging from recent European P.O. packs to Faroe Isl nearly cplt. 1970s on NH collection in hingeless albums to the infamous albums of “Golden Replica” FDC, also note some 2000s Polar related topical packs, couple worldwide starter collections, the usual stock books, envelopes and boxes of of sorted/unsorted on/off paper used, six albums German ETB, Fleetwood souvenirs (stamps and covers), plus several stock books of 1960s+ NH and used Iceland, Israel, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Germany (note some better used 1950s Berlin as well), and even an old postcard album with early 20th century German trade cards with multitude of topics incl WW I, Zeppelins, stamp facsimiles, birds, minerals, etc., usual mixed condition, most F-VF, certainly a profitable lot when it’s all said and done. | Est. $4500-6000
/ | | WORLDWIDE GOODIES INCLUDING BOB SAFETY DEPOSIT MATERIAL "Small is beautiful" said the great ecologist Schumacher and this is no exception! Starting off with the very rare Italian Colonies Somalia with the postage dues series of 1906/7 first overprint 5c to 10l. set of eleven, fine mint and scarce. B.P.A. Certificate (2006). Sassone 1-11, cat 5,000 euros. Then another sought after Italian item, this time the 1923 Manzoni 10c. to 5l. mint almost imperceptibly hinged Scott #165-170, (cat $674 as hinged). Then British Commonwealth with a very unusual right hand corner marginal mint 1891 Fiji with 2 lower stamps unhinged and the 2 top stamps very lightly hinged, imperf at bottom. Then a very beautiful stamp the high value of Mauritius the 50 rupees mauve and green with specimen o/p. Then a collection of the Royal Mail Steam Packet Co., part of the British Mail contract by the Pacific Steam Navigation Co for their agency, 1875/1880 with no less than 5 mint 10c red, then 3 used of the same including manuscript cancel and 10c blue etc - quite scarce material hardly ever seen. Finally the most spectacular looking Russian Zemstvo item with a sheet of 101, a complete sheet 13 x 7 of the Chembar 1888 issue multi-colored black, yellow and green, originally discovered in a large revenue collection with partial paper adherence on the back, a stunning item to look at of exhibition standard and important. All in all a wonderful lot of worldwide goodies, including much material difficult to value and certainly well worthwhile researching in old auction catalogues. A thoroughly recommended viewing.[v] | Est. $4500-5500

/ | | WORLDWIDE BOOKLETS HOLDING an extraordinary range of material, mostly mint. The accumulation consists of 10 substantial books and a box. Each volume is organized by country and very little duplication, perhaps a few of each and more often than not on key countries such as Thailand - in fact one book is dedicated to Thailand and another 4 books for Scandinavia of which Sweden predominates and this country alone has about 450 booklets, with many premium, i.e. not only is there a very substantial face value content running into several hundreds of dollars, also far better booklets that will require a Facit to see the depth of what is here- for example ‘Folkskolan 100 years’, ‘Swedish Press’, ‘Esaias Tegner’, ‘Erik Gustaf Geiger’, ‘Sparbanksroerelsen’, ‘Pioneer Jubilee’, ‘Lingiaden’, ‘Christopher Polhem’, ‘Idrottsrorelsen’. Other Scandinavian countries include choc-a-bloc Denmark and Iceland, again not only high new issue content but also premium. Some volumes have a wide variety of countries, for example booklets from Greece, The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Hungary, Monaco, Italy, Spain, Chile, Jugoslavia, Portugal, Cyprus, Israel with the early coin series onwards, etc- all of these just in one book, with well over 120 items. Othe volumes include Ireland, interesting booklets but also gutter pairs for commems and even postage dues. Eastern Europe very interesting not just for unusual Czechoslovakia, East Germany. Please note that in every book the prices – there are hardly any prices in the box - are for new issue service or at best an old catalogue figure, giving only an indication of what is here. Plus two books of British Commonwealth, with well over 200 booklets, with, Zambia, Monsterrat, Gibraltar, British Africa countries with low printing numbers like St Helena, Ascension, Seychelles, etc. Also present a box full of booklets waiting to be incorporated into the main run of the books. This box contains over fifty glassines, many of these are stuffed full of different booklets and can contain up to a dozen or so and we conservatively estimate that there are at about 200 booklets in this box alone., with Independent French Africa, some of the other Scandinavian countries such as Finland, Norway and many others from all over the world. There is such a wealth of material present with about 1500 booklets, notwithstanding the extra value with premium commems, definitives, postage dues, gutter pairs, etc, housed in the Irish book. This is a very colorful accumulation containing a wide variety of non-Scott listed items as well, some of which are not often seen on the market today, especially the earlier Scandinavia. Most booklets here would retail around $10, very few less than $5 and certainly there are a good number that would go for $30 especially in Scandinavia . This is an excellent opportunity for a dealer looking to replenish stocks inexpensively. Similarly a collector who wants a worldwide well-rounded booklet holding with little duplication will find this a difficult lot to beat.[v] | Est. $3000-4000
