Vignette of allegorical men flanking oval with automobile radiator grill. The Autocar Company was an early manufacturer of automobiles and trucks in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. It was first founded as the Pittsburgh Moto Vehicle Company but became the Autocar Company in 1899. By 1907, the company had decided to concentrate on commerical vehicles and the Autocar brand is still in use of commercial trucks. The first car in 1900 was a single cylinder chain drive runabout. About 27 were made. Commercial vehicles were made from 1907 and soon outnumbered cars. The last cars were produced in 1912 but the company continued as a truck maker until 1953 when they were taken over by White. Unique in archive. SBNC. VF." (Photo) 400-800

10 "Continental Motors Corp. Registered Bonds," "Specimen. 5 different registered bonds. All have vignette of allegorical woman with winged wheel sitting on the world directly on top of the U.S. All are 7% Debentures Due 1999. 1)-5) 4 Odd, blue, $ Odd, green, $1000, red, $5000, brown, $10,000, Orange. Continental Motors built, designed and supplied airplane and car engines from the 1906 until the 1960's produced in their factory in Muskegon, Michigan to the automobile and aviaiton industry. Automobile companies that have used Continental engines in their automobiles include Checker Cab (pre-1965); Durant Motors (including Durant, Flint and Star brand cars); Jeep (during World War II); Kaiser-Frazer Corporation (including Allstate, Frazer, Henry J, Kaiser and post-1953 Willys brand cars); Keller; Velie and Willys. Their engines have also been used in the Piper Cub; Taylorcraft; Beechcraft Bonanza; Piper Malibu and in 1986, powered by a liquid cooled version of the 1O-240 engine, the Voyager, which was the first piston-powered aircraft to circumnavigate the world without refueling. 11 Cord Corporation - Automobile Proof. "DE. Proof certificate of vignette, title and text without border. Vignette has a tri-motor airplane flying over speedboats, Dusenberg and Auburn Automobiles. Cord, the head of the Cord Corporation, owned two aviation companies, Stinson Aircraft and Lycoming Motors, two automoblie companies, Auburn and Dusenberg, and five other engine manufacturers. In January 1932, Cord formed the Airplane Development Corporation as a subsidiary of the Cord Corporation, with Vultee as chief engineer, to begin work on the Vultee V-1 transport. In early 1932, Cord faced labor problems with his airlines pilots and he sold both airlines to American Airways in exchange for seven percent of the stock of American's parent company, the Aviation Corporation. By late 1932, Cord had purchased 30 percent of the stock in the Aviation Corporation and after a bitter stockholder's battle, Cord gained control of the company. 21 "DuPont American Industries, Inc. Bond," "DE. 1921. Specimen. $10,000. Secured Serial 6% Coupon Gold Bond. Orange. Eagle. This bond series of $25,000,000 was secured with 7,000,000 shares of the common stock of General Motors Corporation. DuPont's link with General Motors began with Pierre S. du Pont, who bought GM stock in 1914. In 1915 Pierre was elected a GM director, then board chairman, to help strengthen GM's management. After World War I, GM executive and former DuPont treasurer John J. Raskob persuaded DuPont's directors to invest $25 million in GM. Pierre became GM's president in 1920. By then DuPont's GM holdings provided half of DuPont's total earnings. DuPont disposed of all its GM stock in 1961. They knew how to put their money to work for them. No imprint. VF." The Hercules Motors Corporation was organized in Canton, Ohio in 1915 to supply high-speed, lightweight gasoline engines for the fast-growing transportation industry. These engines became the standard power for the then-major independent truck manufacturers. During World War II, nearly 750,000 Hercules engines, representing 65 million horsepower, went to war in every conceivable type of mechanized military equipmen-tanks, armored cars, scout cars, tank transporters, landing craft, picket boats, jeeps, amphibious tractors, rescue craft, trucks for all purposes.
