It specialized in manufacturing tie racks and garden tools, but also manufactured toy trucks as well, apparently as a sideline, and the three founders began exhibiting them at the New York Toy Fair as early as 1947. These Tonka brand trucks quickly became its preeminent product. and the company changed its name to Tonka Toys in 1955. Tonka went public in 1961. 986 Bulova Watch Co. "NY. 1970's. 2 different certificates. Both have nude woman with arms spread in front of clock. 1). < 100 shs. In 1919, Bulova introduced the first full line of jeweled wristwatches for men. Over the next several years, Bulova added several other industry firsts, including the first ladies wristwatch line and the first line of diamond wristwatches. In 1926, the company sponsored the first nationally broadcast radio spot commercials, featuring the immortal ""At the tone, it's 8 p.m., B-U-L-O-V-A Bulova watch time"" tag line. Bulova began selling the world's first clock radio two years later. Meanwhile, the company's name was changed to Bulova Watch Company, Inc. Bulova also was active in the war effort during World War II. In 1954, Arde Bulova hired Gen. Omar Bradley, a World War II hero, as chairman of Bulova Research & Development Labs, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary involved in developing the company's defense product business.
