1030 Guggenheim Exploration Company Proof. "Proof. Proof of vignette, title and text, no border. Vignette of miner walking with mine in background. On April 8, 1901, M. Guggenheim Sons gained control of the American Smelting and Refining Company. Daniel Guggenheim was appointed Chairman of the Board, Isaac Guggenheim as Treasurer, and Isaac, Solomon, Murry and Simon Guggenheim to both the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee. Along with the Guggenheim Exploration Company (Guggenex) that had been formed in June 1899, both the Securities Company and American Smelters Securities Company played important roles in the development of Utah Copper. Utah Copper was in desperate need of capital to underwrite their huge excavations. In 1905, an arrangement was made between Utah Copper and the Guggenheim interests. Guggenex would underwrite $3 million in bonds, including a 25% interest in Utah Copper. In return, the management of UC would come under Guggenex control, with John Hays Hammond as managing director. The arrangement between the Guggenheims and Utah Copper established M. Guggenheim Sons as Copper Kings. In addition, they played a major role in developing Nevada's copper industry. APL Limited, formerly called the American President Companies Ltd., operates container shipping services by container ships on Pacific and Indian Ocean trade lanes, conducts transportation services between major Asian and North American cities and commercial centers and serves the transportation needs of North America with trasportation networks that includes rail, trucking and freight brokerage and consolidation services. The company is considered one of the most efficiently operated shipping companies in the world. 1035 "Dollar Steamship Lines Inc., Ltd.," "DE. 1929. Specimen. Odd shs. Class A Common Stock. green. Steamship with ""$"" signs on the smokestacks. In 1893 Dollar purchased a sawmill on the Pacific coast of the United States, and his lumber business grew. He had a son, Stanley Dollar who left school at 13 and worked in his father's lumber office. In 1893 or 1895 he acquired his first vessel, a single steam schooner called Newsboy from the recently bankrupt Navarro Mill, to move his lumber from the Pacific northwest to markets down the coast and in the process they established the Dollar Steamship Company. In 1923 he purchased seven ex World War 1 ""502 President type"" liners from the US Shipping Board. In March 1925 Dollar took over an additional eight ""535 President type"" liners from the Shipping Board but managed by Pacific Mail Steamship Company in Trans Pacific work. The Pacific Mail Steamship Co. was taken over by Dollar in 1925. On 18 November 1936, one of the Dollar companies filed for bankruptcy and in 1937 the Tacoma Oriental was sold up to meet debts. On 1 November 1938, the new entity met for the first time. At that meeting, the name of the company was changed to American President Lines Ltd. Historic shipping company. Printed on white paper, uniface, with purple ""cancelled"" handstamps referring to the cancellation of the printing plates. Vignette, title and text present but the border is missing. Vignette of allegorical women flanking Nepture with trident with water pouring out of fishes mouth. In 1860, the Coast Wrecking Company was reorganized as Merritt's Wrecking Organization. It merged with Chapman Derrick & Wrecking Company to form Merritt & Chapman Derrick & Wrecking Company in 1897. In 1922, the company merged again with T.A. Scott Company to form Merritt-Chapman & Scott Corporation.
