ACNielsen Corporation is the global leader in consumer research, offering comprehensive information that tracks sales, volume, shares, trends, pricing, promotions, distribution and inventory levels for corporate clients in a variety of industries worldwide. The company was started in 1923 by Arthur C. Nielsen to run quality tests and offering buying suggestions on conveyor belts, turbine generators and other machine-related parts. In 1935, Nielsen helped pioneer key market research tools--including the concept of market share. In the 1950's, the advent of television and the need for ever-quicker rating techniques spurred the development of meter readers that Nielsen attached to telephone lines for 'overnight' TV ratings. This method saved time over past techniques, but costs were extremely high. In 1952, the company acquired one of the first computers manufactured by IBM. Although it was unwieldy in size and function compared to later models, it nonetheless marked a milestone in efficiency. In 1996, while under the owership of The Dun & Bradstreet Corporation, the research firm was split off into two separate entities: ACNielsen and Nielsen Media Research. This certificate is from the split up of the company in 1996 by Dun & Bradstreet. The corporate seal has an incorporation date of 1996. 1254 "B.F. Keith's New York Theatres Company," "Specimen. Odd shs, Class A voting Stock. Orange. Fancy title. Among the major players in the Vaudeville circuit were B.F. Keith N.Y. Theatres Co. with 7 theatres. In the late 1880s, Benjamin Franklin Keith and Edward F. Albee, acquaintances from their earlier days in the circus business, joined forces to promote ""polite"" vaudeville. To this end, Keith and Albee opened several lavishly remodeled theatres on the east coast, censored most crude remarks and revealing costumes from performances at their theatres and prohibited boisterous behavior such as hissing at performers during their productions. The Keith and Albee brand of ""high class"" vaudeville was thus underway by the end of the nineteenth century. In the mid-1920s vaudeville's popularity began to ebb as the success of motion pictures increased. Albee first tried to stem the decline of ""high-class"" vaudeville by merging with a prominent western chain of vaudeville theatres, the Orpheum Circuit, forming the Keith-Albee-Orpheum Circuit in 1927, but in 1928 he sold $4,500,000 worth of stock to film magnate Joseph P. Kennedy. (3) After Keith-Albee-Orpheum combined with Kennedy's Radio Corporation of America (RCA) to establish Radio-Keith-Orpheum (RKO), Albee lost his control over the organization and films became the primary entertainment, although vaudeville survived as an accmopaniemtn to feature films through the mid-1930s.
