The company was very successful for over 70 years until prohibition and eventually was dissolved in 1951. He was also known as an amateur automobile racer in the early automobile era at the turn of the century. He favored and raced a 60 HP "Benz". He was so fond of cars, he started his own automobile company, The Louis J. Bergdoll Motor Company, that was in existance from 1910 to 1913.
