1490 U.S. Progressive Proof Engraving of Telephone Company Vignette. 1957. Progressive proofs of vignette of George Washington on horse and soldiers with flags. 9 different progressive proofs of the vignette. The outer allegorical man and woman flanking Washington are already complete and are not altered. Engraving stars with faces and hands and gradually is completed. Interesting series of vignettes. 1491 U.S. George Washington Proof Vignette Study (11). ca.1840's-70's. 11 different vignettes with George Washington portraits. 10 out of the 11 vignettes are printed on india paper and mounted on manila cards. One is printed on white coated stock. Printers include TCC, ABNC and unattributed. 3 are compound proofs with multiple vignettes. 1492 U.S. Presidential Proof Vignettes (11). ca.1840's-80's. 11 different proof vignettes of presidents. All are original vignettes printed on india paper and mounted on manila file cards with archival notations. Printers and engravers include RWHE; DWC; CBNC; TCC and BCC. Presidents include J.Q.Adams; Polk; Tyler; Monroe; Pierce; Jefferson; Buchanan; Johnson; Washington; Grant and Harrison. All were used on banknotes, checks , drafts, and miscellaneous security printed documents by these early ABNC predecessor companies. 1493 U.S. George Washington Facing Left Vignette Study. ca.1840's-1890's. 11 different George Washington proof vignette portraits facing left and of Martha Washington. Most of these images were used on obsolete banknotes, stocks, bonds, checks and security printed documents. The vignettes range from 1 to 3 inches in size. 10 are printed on india paper mounted on archival manila file cards and one is printed on india paper only. One of the vignettes is duplicated as a bond or stock certificate top with circular border. Printers include ABNC; WBNC; BCC; CBNC; RWHE; DWC; HLBNC; FLBNC and the others unattributed. Condition ranges from VG (one with glue stains and internal tears) up to choice uncirculated condition. Please inspect. Extremely attractive and diverse group of Washington vignettes. 1507 U.S. Sound Steamer "Bristol" Vignette Printing Plate by Continental BNC. ca.1860's-70's. 122x66x3mm steel die. Shows oblique view of the steamer on the water with another sailing ship in the background. Die "V 49176" and "CBN CO." imprint at bottom right, accompanied by a print of the die mounted on the filing envelope. Full rendering of the seal, the coat of arms is crested by an American eagle, wings outstretched, standing upon a globe showing the North Atlantic Ocean; the female figures of Liberty and Justice stand upon a scroll that proclaims "Excelsior", or "Ever Upward"; Liberty and Justice frame a scene of two ships on a river with the sun rising above the mountains.
