Both are uniface, of the same design but different color, Black and green, and printed on banknote paper with security planchettes. Young woman in middle with BWC on top. Ornate design. Scarce. BWC. 1641 London. England Waterlow & Sons Limited Advertising Notes and Sheet (3). ca.1880's-1930's. 3 different pieces. 1, 2). Advertising banknote face proofs with blank backs. Both have vignette of distinguished man, possibly Waterlow himself. One is printed with green border, brown vignette on top and small purple vignette on bottom and the other is printed with brown border, dark brown vignette on top and small red brown vignette on bottom. Note states "Manufacturers of Banknotes, Bonds, Stamps ...". Both in choice Unc. condition; 3). Waterlow & Sons Advertising sheet with 5 different Waterlow factory buildings on one side in black and the other side in green and black with large factory building. 1644 England De LA Rue Giori S.A. Uncut Sheet of 32 Shakespeare Advertising Notes. ca.1970's-80's. One Pass. Uncut sheet of advertising notes with Shakespearean actors with stage setting on right on face and a portrait of Shakespeare and building on back. Multicolor undertin on both sides. 1645 England Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co, Ltd. Proof Spanish Advertising Note. ca.1850's-60's. Proof face printed on india paper in black and proof of central vignette and portrait without text or border. Both in XF condition. Slight toning on top middle of complet note and mounting stains on the left side of the vignette proof. Roman soldier on left and long horned cattle with gaucho. Text states "Graveurs et Imprimeurs de Billets de Banque, Obligations, Coupons, Actions, Cheques, Etc. - Modele de Billet". BWC (Photo) Est. 250.00-500.00
1646 England, Italy De La Rue - Giori Error Shakespeare One Pass Test Sheet. ca.1970-80's. Unfinished specimen or error sheet of "One Pass" test notes to evaluate the Giori printing press. Evidently this test did not fare very well, with the sheet damaged on the lower right and the back not completely inked. VG to Fine condition. Unique in archive. De La Rue - Giori. 1647 New York, N.Y. U.S. Miller & Boyle Practical Lithographers Sample Sheet. 1850-1870's. Small format ornate vignette sample advertising sheet with vignettes of eagle in middle, allegorical figures in each corner and map of Delaware, Maryland and part of New Jersey. Listed are all of the documents they print including stocks, bonds, checks, drafts, exchanges, maps and miscellaneous items. Printed in green and brown. Rare advertising sheet for lithographer. 1648 U.S. Toppan, Carpenter & Co. Letter of Intorduction of John Casilaer to Firm. 1850. Proof of introductory and advertising letter informing clients of the addition of John W.Casilear to the firm in 1850 and the change of the name of the firm to "Toppan, Carpenter, Casilear & Co." from Toppan, Carpenter & Co.. Letter describes qualifications of Casilear and information about the firm. Bottom has written below Fancy signature of the company's new name "Eng' by Charles Toppan. 1649 Chicago, IL. U.S. Western BNC Advertising Sign. ca.1880's. WBNC Advertising sign printed on light brown card stock. 13.5 by 7.25 inches. Ornate buffalo on lower left. The sign includes a list officers of the company and advertises for printing stocks, bonds, banknotes, etc. Bottom margin has printed "New York Ofiice No.11 wall Street". Advertising sheet or page, 5 by 8 inches, with allegorical woman on top left and cherub on bottom right, with ornate lettering and artistic designs. Intaglio printed; 2). HBNC letterhead printed on pink paper attached to order for 41,000 tickets, dated 1904. Vignette of Alexander Hamilton on upper left corner of letterhead. U.S. American BNC Advertising Card - Atlantic & Pacific (3). ca.1860-80's. 3 different versions of "Atlantic & Pacific" vignette of allegorical woman holding flag and U.S. shield with eagle used on Union Pacific RR stocks and bonds. 1). American BNC advertising card with this famous vignette. 5.5 by 8.5 inches. 2, 3). 2 different sizes of the same vignette as previous, one the same size as used on the advertising card and the second one about 1/2 size. 1653 St.Louis, MO. U.S. St. Louis BNC Advertising Sheet. ca.1870-1880's. Advertising sheet or page, 6 by 9 inches, with allegorical figures on left and right. St.Louis BNC was taken over by Western BNC in the early 1880's. Back has text in red listing items printed and offering samples. Scarce advertising items from famous bank note company. Bagley, Late Governor of Michigan on top with ornate WBNC title and advertising information with train leaving station on bottom. Back has large format vignette of woman and birds labeled "Springtime". Printed on very light yellow paper. Scarce advertising items from famous bank note company. Choice condition. WBNC. 1656 U.S. American BNC Miscellaneous Material. 1938-1960's. 5 different ABNC publications including the following: 1-3). 3 different early annual reports (for 1938,1939 and 1946); 4). "The Exchange, Published by the New York Stock Exchange", with ABNC color sample sheet cover with allegorical woman with shield and sword and intaglio engravings on back cover. On bottom right states "counterfeiting is my business". Includes counterfeit example of front cover inside magazine as example of differences between intaglio printing and litho printing; 5). ABNC "Steel Engraved Decalcomania Stamps" booklet in blue with ABNC eagle logo on top of front cover and inside top also. Face of card has ornate engraving of the security printing process showing from left to right views of the engraving and printing process. Back has WBNC building and advertising information. 1658 Boston, MA. U.S. American BNC Advertising Business Card & Matching Proof Vignettes. ca.1860-70's. 3 pieces in lot. 1). Rare coated stock advertising business or trade card for the American Bank Note Co., Boston office. B.C.Leonard is listed as agent for ABNC in Boston and his name is engraved on card around ABN logo. T.F.Fitzgerald has his name overprinted in red, possibly as a new agent for ABNC's Boston office using the old agents business card. ABN eagle logo on left with 1858 Incorporation date. Ornate lettering and text describing types of documents printed with Banknotes being the first mentioned. 5 by 2.5 inches. This is the only example of this advertising trade card seen. Back is blank. Toning on right margin, otherwise choice condition. 2, 3). 2 different proof impressions of the ABNC eagle logo with 1858 Incorporation date. One is printed on india paper in black and mounted on Manila card, the second is printed in blue on india paper only. Both are cationed "Seal ABNCO". XF to Choice Unc. condition. 1659 U.S. American BNC Business - Ad Card Selection (2). 1870-1900. 2 different ABNC business - advertising cards. Both have the same face with George Washington portrait. 1). The first card is addressed 70 Broad St, NY (this might be a more modern reprint based on the quality of paper and color used). The card unfolds and the inside is blank. The back has a micro-engraving of the Declaration of Independence and has 16 different state arms surrounding it. 2). The second card is addressed 142 Broadway. Printed on slightly off white paper. Back has advertising for the company and mentions Albert G. Goodall as President and C.L.Van Zandt as Vice-president to help in dating the card. Both are in choice Unc. Rare pair. ABNC. 1660 U.S. American BNC Advertising Cards and Labels (5). ca.1910-1970. 4 different ABNC advertising cards or labels. All have the ABNC eagle logo with the date 1795-1879 below eagle portrait. 1, 2). ABNC advertising Perpetual Calendars. Both have the Aztec Calendar Stone on the back. The face of the card has the ABNC eagle logo, one is in blue with logo only, the other in brown with logo and 1937 calendar below it. The inside of the cards have "The Ever-ready Reference Calendar" from the years 1753 until 2000; 3). ABNC eagle logo proof with text on bottom "Dinner given by Daniel E. Woodhull, President". Evidently an invitation to an ABNC party; 4). ABNC mailing label with ABNC eagle logo and address of 70 Broad St., NY, NY. All are in choice Unc. ABNC. (Photo) Est. 250.00-500.00
1661 Chicago, IL. U.S. Western BNC Advertising Sign for 1889. 1889. Advertising sign intaglio printed on card stock advertising the name and location of WBNC with the date 1889. Address listed for that date was 300 to 306 Dearborn St., Chicago, IL. 9 by 12 inches. There are a few little spots and rubbed areas, otherwise the sign appears VF to XF. Rare and possibly unique. Specimen advertising sheet in the form of a bond with borders surrounding text and vignette of Zenas Crane, Founder of Crane & Co. 10 by 15 inches. Green border. 1665 Chicago, IL. U.S. Columbian BNC Advertising Cards (2). ca.1900-1920. 2 different advertising cards for Columbian BNC. Both are uniface. 1). Stock certificate appearing ad card with allegorical woman on left "Columbia" and topless woman on right. Made to look like a stock certificate with a space for the corporate seal and ornate stock certificate like borders. Appears Unc., but has punch cancel in the upper left corner and unfortunately has been folded in 1/2 in the middle horizontally. 2). Allegorical woman in middle with Columbian Bank Note Company title below it. Dated 1920 and announces change of address in Chicago. Scarce pair of ad cards form rare printer. Columbian BNC. 1666 U.S. American BNC Buildings and Factories (4). ca.1890's-1920's. 4 different ABNC buildings, 3 are variations of the New York City Building and the fourth is a vignette of the Bronx Plant, which is in VG condition due to ink stains on the proof. The 3 NYC building vignettes are of the same engraving with additional buildings in brown on one and no buildings in the other two. Extensive archival notations on file cards. 1667 U.S. American BNC Advertising Archival Proof Assortment. ca.1880's-1940's. 8 proofs of ABNC related advertising material. 1). ABNC, 70 Broad Street, New York, proof of sign in green on white paper with POC; 2, 3). 2 different ABNC eagle logos with 1795-1879 dates as part of design, one has significant glue stains and minor tears, the other has light toning; 4). ABNC address, possibly a letterhead, on manila file folder with 70 Broad St., NY address; 5). ABNC Annual Report - 1938, title proof in manila file folder; 6). ABNC text proof for appreciation certificate for faithful service in italic scrip in manila file folder; 7, 8). 2 slightly different sized ABNC brochure face proofs with ABNC eagle logo on top and ABNC name on manila file folder. 1668 U.S. American BNC Advertising Notes (3). ca.1920's-1950's. 20 3 different variations of ABNC "20 Specimen Bank Note" with Washington Vignette. 1). Specimen, uncancelled. Double sided ad note in black on face and green on back that is off center and cut into right margin. Same note face on both sides in different colors. No undertints; 2). Specimen, uncancelled, uniface. Black on orange cycloid and light blue undertint. Large margins on right and bottom; 3). Proof on large card. Dark blue on m/c undertint. 1669 U.S. American BNC French Advertising Card. 1920-30's. 4 page advertising pamphlet from ABNC for their French offices. Front page has ABNC eagle logo on to with text touting the quality of their work in French, inside pages have vignettes of Washington, Dom Pedro (Brazil), another old notable guyand an allegorical woman standing on winged wheel that was used on Czechoslovakia banknotes. Back page has a blue advertising note with Paul Revere flanked by allegorical figures similar to the ones used on the 1917 Canadian Bank of Commerce Series. Choice condition. ABNC.
