From the ABNC counterfeiting Security and Research Department. Banknote is paper clipped with a piece of paper that states "Counterfeit F.W.G. 12/24/28". One of the higher quality counterfeits found. 1912 Brazil Brazil Vignettes Used on Banknotes and Financial Documents (21). ca.1860's-1920's. 21 different vignette proofs of buildings, allegorical figures and Brazil Arms. All are printed on india paper and mounted on manila cards or are printed on india paper only. All of the vignettes are from ABNC. Banknotes that are represented by vignettes from this lot includes No Banco Do Brasil, 1860's No Date issue, P-S251, 25 Mil Reis, Unpriced in SCWPM; Imperio Do Brasil banknotes: P-A244, Estampa 5, 1870-78,1 Mil Reis; P-A245, 2 Mil Reis; P-A252, Estampa 6, 1869-82, 10 Mil Reis; P-A255, Estampa 7, 1869-83, 1 Mil Reis; and P-A257, 5 Mil Reis; P-A258, 10 Mil Reis. I addition, there are a number of vignettes that are probably back proofs or have not been pictured in the reference books that are included. Some of the titles include "The Docks and Arsenal at Rio De Janiero" (4 different color LDP's); "Republica Dos Estados Unidos Do Brasil" of an impressive building (2 different colors); "Gloria Hill"; "Brasileira" an impressive allegorical figure leaning on Arms of Brazil and other vignettes. All impressive and attractive engravings. Condition ranges between VF to choice uncirculated condition. An interesting study of Brazilian vignettes used on various banknote issues. 1913 Brazil Dom Pedro Proof Vignettes Used on Banknotes From Brazil. ca.1870's-90's. 9 different proof vignettes, 7 are of Dom Pedro, 1 is of Dom Pedro II and the last one is of Dom Pedro-1. 5 are printed on india paper and mounted on manila cards, 2 are printed on india paper only and 1 is a LDP printed on india on large white card. 1914 Bulgaria Bulgarian Proof Vignettes Used on Banknotes. 1922. 5 different LDP or cut down LDP vignettes printed on india paper and unmounted on card (3) or mounted on manila card (2). All are from the 1922, Banque Nationale De Bulgarie Issue printed ABNC. The harbor scene may have a duplicate underneath the vignette that it was pasted over if you choose to soak it off the paper. 1915 Halifax, N.S. Canada The Bank of Nova Scotia. 1896. P-S626 Unlisted. $20 Unique proof without undertint, serial numbers or specimen overprint. Printed in black on white paper. Includes note date May 1897 from the Bank of Nova Scotia's manager stating that they like the changes and would like to see different tint specimens. Folded horizontally once and vertically twice, with staple holes on the left margin. VF+ to XF condition. Banknote catalogs $1,400 in issued VG condition. Unlisted as specimen or proof. Rare note. 1916 Halifax, N.S. Canada The Bank of Nova Scotia. 1897. P-S627 Unlisted. $20 Unique uniface specimen or proof with undertint, serial numbers, but no specimen overprint. Cut cancelled on lower bottom margin by cutting out manager's signature. Punch cancelled also. A letter included with the note is dated Dec 30, 1897 and informs ABNC that this note is the desired color. Folded vertically twice, with staple holes on the left margin. Cut down LDP to bank note size, thin card with M/C cycloid tint seals. 3 different imprints on bottom, similar to issued note. 3). Black and white proof with no seals or undertints on very thin india type of paper including all of the imprints on the bottom. 4). 5 page booklet of cycloid tints of arms from left and right of banknote printed on bank note paper. P-S967 Unlisted. $20 Unique approval proof, on large white card, with additions and changes made to design including painting out a small black inner border with a white paint wash, adding red "00000" serial numbers and adding the lower printer copyright and date beneath the lower frame line. This note has different versions of the President and General Manager signatures than the final version that was issued. Multiple approval signatures on the bottom and dated "26/7/18". Notes on bottom of card request minor changes to design. Back of card has multiple different date stamps by ABNC, Ottawa. 1935 Toronto. Canada The Canadian Bank of Commerce Progressive Proofs. 1917-21. P-S968 Unlisted. $50 Unique black and white progressive approval face and back proofs, both on large white card with hand written notation on bottom "Imprint O.K., C.R.B., Aug.7/23". These proofs were approving changes to the micro banknote copyright and patent wording on bottom. 2 of the micro legends are already engraved in the plat, the 3rd on each is added by gluing on a very small thin strip with the wording approved. Back of both cards have multiple different date stamps by ABNC, Ottawa. Photo proof of a face sketch that formed the basis for the design of this note. The photo shows a signature of the artist "Rargery?, 1913" on lower right of the sketch. 2). Photo proof on large card of a slightly more detailed version of the previous sketch. Lower margin has Approved signatures and is dated "23/3/16 and 3/30 '16". 3). A final version photo proof on photo paper mounted on white paper and cut down to banknote size of a very well done oil painting of the previous sketches. 4). Photo essay back model or mock up with denominations pasted on underlying note. Lower left corner has notation "Rejected, prefer words One Hundred". Dated "1915" on back. 5).
